FUGITIVE FROM VEGAS: William Mize | KLAS
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – He is accused of organizing car accidents, scamming insurance companies and running a major criminal ring. Now authorities say William Mize is missing.
The US Marshals are asking for your help in finding him, and there is a cash reward to be won.
Mize likes three things, according to a U.S. Vice Marshal:
- His legacy
- Her now deceased pet
The jet-set chihuahua is adorned with jewelry, always alongside its owner.
“This guy thinks of himself as the godfather of a white-collar criminal family,” the Marshal told I-Team, “and everyone has to obey him or there will be consequences.”
The Marshal asked us to protect his identity due to the nature of his work, finding people on the run, like Mize.
“He knows the law. He’s a very smart guy, ”said the marshal. “He’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. The amount, the track of people he knows how to cover is truly impressive.
Federal prosecutors say Mize staged car crashes, falls and other accidents in five different states, including Nevada. Insurance companies paid over $ 6 million for the fraudulent claims.
“If you are wondering why your auto insurance is high, this is part of the problem,” Marshal said.
Mize and 21 others were charged in 2018. Most of them spent time in prison. Records show some are still in custody, such as Mize’s wife.
But the now 59-year-old man has disappeared, bringing his legal proceedings to an end.
“If you have ever come into contact with this guy, check your history because he knows very well how to use the identity of others,” urged the marshal. “So if there is someone helping it, it is very possible. He has the means. We think he still has a lot of money on him. He’s good at talking to people. He can manipulate people. He has a habit of getting very violent if he doesn’t get what he wants.
He says I-Team Mize was last seen at Total Wine in Henderson in 2019, and looked like he was dressed for a boat ride, one of his other passions. However, he left without buying anything, as he may have realized he had been spotted.
“I think it was pretty quick, he realized he made a mistake there, but this guy is generally very smart and doesn’t make mistakes,” said the marshal.
He notes that Mize has family in the area and that the US Marshals believe he is staying in southern Nevada. He faces numerous charges, including mail and electronic fraud and new charges relating to being a fugitive.
There is a reward of $ 2,500 for information leading to Mize’s capture. If you have any information, you can call the US Marshals Office at 702-388-6355.
