In response to Congressman UT Khader in the Assembly during zero hour, he said, the government has information on the use of satellite phones in 256 incidents in 2020 and 220 in 2021 through now.
The minister further noted that there had been an exchange of information between local police stations, the Internal Security Division (ISD), the Intelligence Office (IB) and the Research and Intelligence Wing. analysis (RAW) regarding the use of satellite phones, and strict vigilance has been maintained.
“We cannot discuss it openly. International calls are going there, national security issues are involved. There is also information about the use of satellite phones in the interior areas, the police are following and are behind ( investigation). there is no need to worry about it for now, there is no problem, “he said, adding that the police are trying to find the source of these calls, reasons behind them and the people involved.
Highlighting the problem, Khader said, the media have repeatedly reported the use of satellite phones in Dakshina Kannada and the coastal region, as well as the presence of terrorist elements there, which has caused much confusion and of concern among the people.
He sought clarification from the government in this regard.
“Let the government investigate and make an official statement, so people don’t worry and instill confidence in them. If anyone is using satellite phones, they have to be identified and treated, or else it will be our failure. . If no one is using it, say it clearly, so there will be clarity, “he said.
Citing an example of reports of a youth using a satellite phone in Belthangady nearly a year ago, Khader said, but it later emerged that he was not involved in any of these activities.
“While there is an official clarification from the government,” he urged.
