Savor the Season: Positive Vibes for Summer

“Summer was our best season: he slept on the screened back porch in cots, or tried to sleep in the tree house; summer was all good to eat; it was a thousand colors in a parched landscape.

—Scout Finch, To Kill a Mockingbird

Summer has a unique status as a season because it’s really the only one we refer to in the possessive. “How was your summer?” we ask our friends. And of course, at one time or another, as kids, we’ve all accused someone, “You ruined my summer!”

Summer’s Savor the Season lineup in Bernheim is guaranteed to make your summer fun, positive and fresh!

The series will help us see our own familiar yards in a different light and ask questions like: How can I help my yard feed local wildlife and also reduce my grocery and water bills? What climate-friendly choices can I make when I go to daycare?

Bernheim’s edible garden: sustainable solutions to try at home
Zoom presentation by Director of Education Kristin Faurest

The Edible Garden is a living classroom designed to help people understand Bernheim’s research mission. Its 2,000 square feet of raised beds produce over 3,500 pounds of fresh produce per growing season. As a candidate for the Living Building Challenge (LBC), the Edible Garden meets the world’s most rigorous green design standards, following the principles of regenerative design. Take inspiration from the edible garden to reduce your grocery bill, boost biodiversity and enhance the beauty of your own garden. Limit: 100 people. Zoom link provided after registration.
