‘Top clubs’ are interested in Naples Badge, says agent
Lorenzo Insigne’s agent says the forward is flattered by the interest of ‘top clubs’, but the forward’s goal is to have a successful end to the season with Napoli.
The 29-year-old’s contract has just under 18 months to go and talks are underway regarding an extension.
Insigne scored twice in Napoli’s 3-1 win over Bologna on Sunday, and he focuses on the final months of the season rather than transfer speculation.
What was said?
“Of course, there are top clubs that are interested in him,” said his agent Vincenzo Pisacane. Radio Punto Nuovo. “We are flattered by the interest of these clubs, but we are focused on the end of the season. There will be time to discuss the contract extension.
“The only thing he thinks about is Napoli and qualifying for the Champions League. He feels the responsibility of being a captain.
Who would be interested in Insigne?
Manchester City would be an obvious starting point, as they were linked with the striker last summer and still have to find a replacement for Sergio Aguero. Insigne is not an attacker in Aguero’s mold, but can operate in a number of attacking positions.
The possible problem would be Insigne’s age, as he will be 30 before the start of next season and he would likely be an interim fix as opposed to a long-term replacement for Aguero.
The flip side is that City boss Pep Guardiola might consider Insigne a transition option, before bringing in younger legs later.
Aside from loan periods early in his development, Insigne has spent his entire career with the Partenopei. As such, it would be a huge key for him to leave the club for another Serie A team – and his agent could capitalize on his position in the negotiations.
